First of all, catering is not for everyone.

Updated: Nov 23, 2018

Before you carry on reading, there are certain things you need to understand. Catering is not for everyone. I've seen a lot of people and family suffering and striving to survive. There a lot of fail even fall into bankruptcy. But at the same time, I've seen a number of individuals, succeeding in this business.

In my point of view, catering involves a high pressured environment with a market that is moving so fast, constantly evolving and developing. So it takes a lot of skill and knowledge in this day to run a successful bar and restaurant.

To gain such skill and knowledge requires great commitment to the industry.

I believe to run a successful bar and restaurant, you need to improve as a person, not only in the business aspect. For example, how to be a leader, how to communicate with people, finishing tasks you set out to do, working under pressure without cracking, finding courage and moving forward with the people around you.

At the end of the day, it is important to understand that everything revolves around EMOTIONS - our own emotions, our staff’s emotions, and our customer’s emotions.

It is all about human emotional needs, and fulfilling that – Human to Human.

To begin with, you have to be passionate and positive, and you have to like humans. If not, how can you work 70 hours per week, keep coming up with new fresh ideas, and constantly be surrounded by people? How would you deal with staff issues? How would you go the extra mile to please customers?

Essentially, would accomplishing these satisfy you?

I can sit in a place for hours just to understand the ins and outs of that bar or restaurant, their concept, and to figure out why everything is the way it is. Only because I am passionate about it.

I regularly visit all kinds of restaurants/cafes/pubs/bars/clubs just to ask myself about their décor, layout, lighting, music, material, uniform, speed of service, price, product, menu design etc.....

If you are still reading this, you are so far proving to be passionate. You either have interest in the industry or hunger for improvement. So, I see you at the top.
