It's a bad time, as well as a good time in our lives


At this moment, we as a society, are going through something extremely foreign and unfamiliar.


It is a bad time, as well as a good time, in our lives.


We can say that this is period of sadness in every way of the world. Not only for the catering industry, but for all industries, businesses and companies – essentially everyone. Yet, I still believe there are two sides of the coin.


As a Restauranteur and Entrepreneur, I would like to point out some positive points we can appreciate / consider (as a result of the pandemic we are all experiencing):


Now is a good time to become a volunteer

-Before this, I was constantly trying to find time to do some volunteering .And now, just 2 days ago, I registered to become an NHS volunteer, I really hope we can all help each other in this tough times.



Now is a good time to reconnect with the people around you.

-When you are busy running your business, rushing to work and meetings, rushing to the bank, trying to solve problems, etc.., your mind is constantly preoccupied. But now, since the quarantine has been enforced, you have all the time to talk to the people around you. Now you have the chance to text or call the people that mean something to you and reconnect with them. When I see all my business partners finally having time to spend with their families again, it made me think, “Wow.. they can finally take a break and enjoy quality time with their loved ones.” Priceless.


Now is a good time to learn and prepare to return to our normal lives.

-Personally, I have just recently applied to an online course so I can broaden my knowledge and skills. When was the last time you learnt something new and devoted your time to it? It is important to keep on improving yourself (If you have read my previous blog posts you would know why).


Now is a good time to reflect on the direction of your company.

-Where would you like it to go? Now you have the time to think again and make better plans, for when things are back to normal.


Now is a good time to think back about your business operation, as well as planning your business.

-No one knows your business better than you. Take this time to revisit your menus and pricing, relook at your suppliers, reassess your managers; re-evaluate everything. Before this, we were all too busy running our businesses that we didn’t have time to do much planning. But now we have the opportunity to really look back at our faults and do something about it. Now is the time.


Now is a good time to write and share.

-In January 2020, I opened a new restaurant and it was so busy. I first came up with the idea of opening this restaurant in January 2019 – it took me 1 complete year to execute. I didn’t have any energy to write this blog. Now, I can. Same for you. If you want to share your thoughts, now is the best time to do so.


I believe tough times don’t last, but tough people do.


I believe that we will all go back to our normal lives soon. Stay positive, plan ahead, and hopefully we will beat ‘it’ together very soon.
